The Golden Joysticks

We have a long tradition of giving away prizes in the VGR. Everything from toys, games and peripherals, to anime goods and videos. But there is one prize that you can only get at NDK, a truly unique, a one of a kind, hand-made item that you can put on your shelf or dashboard to forever remember your glorious victory in the VGR Tournaments - The Golden Joysticks.

Each Tournament winner gets one of these, and we also give them to the winners of the special prizes in Cosplay, Music Video and Art & Model. We will be creating and giving out these totally original prizes every year from now on.

There may be other Video Game Rooms, in other conventions, but they have nothing like these babies. That's because I make them myself, out of actual arcade machine joysticks. I'll admit, the trophy shop does the mounting and engraving, but I spend a great deal of time and money putting together the only prize that you can actually leave to your grandchildren.

Prize Sponsorships

We are also sponsoring prizes in the Music Video Contest, Costume Contest, and Art and Model Show. These prizes will be given out to the best video-game related entry in their respective events. Beyond the standards given below, we will simply choose the one we like best. It's easiest that way.

Music Video: A qualifying entry is a video that makes good use of primarily video game footage. If you put a flash of Soul Calibur in for just a moment, that doesn't cut it. But if you make something combining the Parasite Eve games and live action movies, that could qualify. Also, taking footage of you playing a game while music plays behind it really isn't what we're looking for. Try again.

Video Game Music Video Winner 2005 - MFP - Yuna's Journey

Costume Contest: We will award the prize to the best Video Game costume. The condition is that it must have been a video game first. Thus, Ranma, which has had thousands of games made from it, would not count. However, Galaxy Fraulein Yuna was actually a game before it was an anime, and would qualify. You get the idea.

P.S. - We are almost all male in the VGR, but we are not impressed by lots exposed flesh. We are impressed by good costuming.

Video Game Cosplay Winner 2005 - Final Fantasy VIII Shiva

Art and Model Show: This prize has mostly the same standards as the Cosplay prize - it should be a piece based on something that was a game first. We will consider any works of art in any media that are entered into the Art & Model Show.
